New stuff!
You'll see on the top right there is a new link to my online portfolio at carbonmade.com and got a new macbook so I've been sorting things out here.
New picture below - nice to get back into pencil work.

The Garden's EP

Here's a design for my band's EP...
It's all about how there are 2 Gardens in the Bible; Eden and the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus cried out for humanity. How did we end up like that? How did we lose paradise and punish God himself?

NewHope09

Over the last few weeks I've been working on the flyers, leaflets, presentation packs, letterheads and posters for NewHope09 in Newport coming up at the end of the month. It was a great project to be working on and had a nice end result. It's also generated a lot of buzz since it's print run of 1000's.

Here's a sample slide:

Natural Anthem

This morning I did the first design for my book on the Psalms, 'Natural Anthem'. I'm going through each one and offering thoughts about how it is relevant to today and making links to music, musicianship and modern songs.

A funny thing happens when you export them though in CMYK - Blogger has no idea how pick up the colours but does change it in some nice ways.

Which do you prefer?

iMac/Rob Bell

This week I have been watching lots of Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials and learning some great new working practices while also picking up the new features of CS4. Here's some samples;

Obama

I was reading this BBC article; "Yankee Doodles" which discussed how Obama is portrayed in cartoons so far. I like him and couldn't bring myself to be the first to draw a nasty picture, so here's my effort:

Today's Drawings

Here's some drawing's I did this morning and will work on next week.
The first l'il monster dude was inspired by watching the trailer for the new Spike Jonze film; 'Where the Wild Things Are' which must be checked out by clicking HERE.

Future Worship

Just found this lying around on my memory stick - it's a cartoon I did recently that wasn't published, but here it is in all it's un-funny glory:

Ting Tings

Today I had another go at illustrating using some inspirations I've found.
Here's my attempt at Katie White from the Ting Tings - since I loved this dynamic Flickr image:

Here's the original image:

I might try again at shading on Monday, but run out of time today. I'm quite pleased with it so far though!

Our Own Devices 1

I loved the robot from the Happy Robot Dance Consortium Inc wallpaper so much I've been drawing him again, although this time I'm thinking of setting up an online comic featuring him meeting some devices from our world. Today, he meets a self-obsessed iPod.

Bus Stop Man

Here's a guy I met at a bus stop in Cardiff today.

Random Album Cover Facebook

There's a cool Facebook Group I joined called 'Random Album Cover Art' which is good fun; here's the instructions and my entry:

1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random... Read More... Read More” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 - Post it to this group

Here's another quick shading test...involving an egg shaped chicken

That 70s Show

This week I've been watching an unreasonable amount of 'That 70s Show' so I drew some characters to make me feel like I was actually achieving something...

The Happy Robot Dance Consortium Inc

OK, in response to my lack-lustre post earlier today, I created the most stupidly happy wallpaper in the world. Just for you!

More Pixels

I think I must be the most boring artist on the internet - but here's some more random pixel art done this morning.

Here's a quick wallpaper I made this morning...

Anne Hathaway?

I just drew this and it seems to bear a striking resemblence to the wonderful Anne Hathaway. I'm quite fond of this picture...a happy accident!

Blogroll

Illustrator/Photoshop painting combo.

:o) It's a really basic test, but I'm much happier with the result than most of the stuff I've posted this week!

Illustrator

OK, so now that I've been working on paintings, it's becoming apparent that I now need to work on my line style. I love super clean lines on drawings and crisp colours, so I've been playing with Illustrator today to get some new effects. This is much closer to what I want, but colouring is difficult. I may still need to export to photoshop to get all the cool colour blending options that I've been learning this week; but here's the test anyway:

Light Test

My shading and knowledge of light/shadows is still incredibly basic, but then sometimes I need to translate it into art more simplified also; so here's a little test I did to teach myself some lessons...

Snow Girl

Snow is beautiful...

Warm Up Drawings

This week I've been working hard on drawings and painting and have really enjoyed it - but a worthwhile excercise to maintain is the 'warmup drawings'.

Here's a selection of those I did this morning. I just took a brush into photoshop and whipped through these; picking something at random and trying to depict it in some quick, sharp flowing lines.

Digital Painting 2

Here's my 2nd [posted] attempt at Digital Painting..been experimenting with some more natural colours - but what I'm looking for is something brighter and more vivid like Alan Batson's design (furthest) below:

Digital Painting 1

Another first for me.
I've been seeing loads of amazing artwork on people's blogs and I've been desperate to learn how to do professional digital painting: Today I found a very helpful tutorial online and then I created this image below just playing with natural brushes, washes and my own loose style.

It's a start!

Dreaming in 8-Bit

Today I finally decided to try some pixel art.
I've been meaning to for a while, and after my new profile pic - I thought of making some retro monsters to varying degrees of success.
